After a battery is removed
from service, it is most likely classified as a hazardous waste due
to its corrosiveness, reactivity, or toxicity. The Resource
Conservation Act (RCRA) guidelines 40 CFR 261 - 268 regulate the
disposal. The Universal Waste Rule (UWR), however, allows for
a user-friendly removal process.
Recycling Process:
After the
batteries are transported to our facility, they are separated
according to their category type. The batteries are then
separated into component parts (lead, cadmium, plastic, etc.) and
reclaimed by a new battery manufacturer.
Shipping Method:
Batteries are to be shipped in a drum or on pallets. Batteries
can be separated when they arrive at Environmental Recycling.
